Wear-resistant coating for your components

Do you want to improve the sliding properties of your components? Or do you have components that need to be protected against wear? Our coating makes this possible. Our coating powders consist of high-performance polymers and are tribologically optimised. This means that they reduce the coefficient of friction and ensure low wear.

Longer service life

Our plastic coating extends the service life of your components. The coating acts as a wear layer so that the underlying surface remains undamaged. At the same time, it improves your components' coefficient of friction.

Simple

iglidur® coating reduces the complexity of your application as no additional components are required. Coating can also be used where little installation space restricts your room for manoeuvre.

Versatile use

You can use iglidur powder coating in a wide range of applications, including those involving high temperatures of up to 300 °C, contact with food and chemicals.

How iglidur powder coating works

iglidur coating can be applied to electrically conductive surfaces. Users do so with the help of an electrostatic powder coating process. The coating powder is evenly distributed on the surface users want to coat and forms a homogeneous layer.

Users can customise the coating thickness. However, they should be bear in mind that the conductivity of the component surface and therefore the adhesion of the powder decreases with increasing the layer thickness. The layer thickness is usually between 60 and 120****μm. Under favourable conditions, up to 500μm can be achieved.

The coatings are based on thermoplastic polymers, which are mixed with various fillers and solid lubricants and processed into a powder. Coated components no longer need to be lubricated and have improved coefficients of friction.

Less wear and shorter throughput times for packaging machines

A manufacturer of packaging and processing machines has reduced frictional resistance, improved rigidity, shortened throughput times and increased hygiene standards on a series of machines by applying an iglidur IC-05 tribo-coating to a sliding carriage.

As the thin lubricating coating, which measures 60 to 100μm, is FDA-approved, contact with food is also no problem in this application. The previous rollers made of an uncoated metallic material carried the potential risk of contaminating the packaging materials even despite regular cleaning of the machine.

Coated springs for blinds with iglidur coating

For this application, springs were coated with an iglidur coating material and used to guide window blinds. The manufacturer was faced with the problem that lubricants did not last as long as the blinds. He therefore tested the springs with an iglidur IC-02 coating.

Although the springs touched the aluminium housing during the test, the coated spring outlived the housing. In addition, the springs generated no noise during the test. Thanks to the coating, the use of grease can now be completely dispensed with.

Plates for pole mounting with iglidur IC-02 coating

Until now, wear pads made of aluminium and a POM material were used in this application to prevent the wear of two metal components. Today, this customer relies on wear pads coated with iglidur IC-02 high-performance polymers.

To ensure that the coated plates withstand the extreme environmental conditions, they were tested in practice with sand, water and high and low temperatures. The results show that the ambient conditions are no problem and the metal components do not wear out.

Adjustable office chair armrest with iglidur IC-02 coating

A manufacturer of office chairs used to work with components made of a POM material for the armrests. As the friction of this material was too high, the company decided on an alternative from igus: moulded aluminium linear guides combined with sliding elements made of iglidur J massively reduced the friction. Previously, the aluminium channels had been coated with a clear PTFE paint, which was both expensive and involved a long handling time.

Now the components are coated with IC-02 and no subsequent painting is required. The same contractor coats the inside with IC-02 and then paints the outside for a better look.
