Hip joint prosthesis with iglidur® bearings by Otto Bock HealthCare GmbH  
95% less wear

Four iglidur® Z bearings guarantee maintenance-free, extremely durable bearing locations with superb dampening on the main axes of this hip prosthesis. The resulting forces occurring in the prosthesis during oscillating movement are reliably transmitted by the bearings without any noticeable increase in play. Experiments in the igus® test laboratory have revealed that iglidur® material show 95% less wear than PA66 and PTFE.

Delicate movements with electric hand prosthesis

Vincent Systems GmbH has high demands concerning bearings for their finger and hand prostheses. And rightly so. They must have low coefficients of friction, require no additional lubrication, be suitable for soft shafts, vibration dampening and chemical-resistant. At the same time, they should enable a functional and aesthetic design. All axes involved in the movement were therefore equipped with iglidur® J bearings.

Fast assembly and long service life

This joint prosthesis has been equipped with iglidur® J piston rings, which can be clipped to the piston due to their opening and flexible material. This makes the installation very easy and decreases assembly time. Previously, PTFE guide bands were inserted into the piston, which wear a lot faster compared to iglidur® piston rings, however, and therefore had to be exchanged more frequently.

Smooth movements with high stability

iglidur® bearings guarantee the necessary comfort during impacts due to their cushioning properties. This holds true for the case of this leg prosthesis by Blatchford, where metal bearings with Teflon coating were replaced by iglidur® Z bearings. In addition to cushioning impacts, bearings by igus® also convince when used with high edge loads and shear forces. Prosthesis wearers describe the movement as particularly fluent and at the same time very stable.

Glimpse into the dry-tech® test laboratoryIn the industry's largest plastic test laboratory, iglidur® bearings are put to the acid test. Under practical conditions, the bearings are tested at different speeds and loads against different shaft materials. The results are entered into our tools to calculate service life and allow for precise predictions regarding their durability.
